Big Blockbusters To Get You Through The Winter Blues

It’s the season for big blockbusters. This is the best time of year for movie lovers. It’s also the ideal time to visit the cinema as the weather turns cold. In Malta, it can really pour down with rain during Autumn and Winter. Malta is known for its sunny days. 300 days of sunshine to be exact! However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t get a small share of gloomy days. Turn these days into a trip to the cinema so you don’t have to stay indoors. There are so many great movies that are coming out to the cinema! I’m sure you’ve been excited to see one of these movies for months. Here’s my list of the five big blockbusters to watch this season. There is something here for every member of the family to enjoy.

Frozen II

Are you ready for some Frozen fever? I’m eagerly waiting for Frozen II to come out. I’ve been so excited for months, maybe even years! After the great success of the first movie, it’s no surprise that Disney decided to pursue a sequel. It’s time to get your singing voices out as we return to Arendelle. As Malta doesn’t experience a classical Winter, this is the ideal movie if you’re missing snow flurries. The plot follows the origins of Elsa’s powers. The team set off on a new journey beyond Arendelle to save their kingdom. They travel to an enchanted land, which has been abandoned since disaster struck. Will this enchanted forest lead to all the answers Elsa has been looking for? This is sure to be a crowd pleaser for the entire family. Frozen II is out on 22nd November.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Walt Disney Studios have been treating us this year. Disney brought us the final endgame to the third phase of the Marvel Studios. Now, the final episode of the ‘Skywalker saga’ is soon approaching. It’s been a great and bittersweet year for movie geeks out there. Since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, it has entertained us with a new movie of the beloved saga each Christmas. After the events of ‘The Last Jedi’, the remainder of the Resistance must encounter the First Order once again. This is sure to be a thrilling experience as the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith finally concludes. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released on 19th December.

Cats

Here’s to another sing-along movie. It doesn’t seem like the hype of musicals will be fading anytime soon. They’re especially popular during this time of year. Their cheery nature can brighten up any gloomy day. Adapted from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End hit is sure to be spectacular. It has a star-studded line-up including Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, James Cordon, and Taylor Swift! Directed by the award-winning Tom Hooper, famous for Les Misérables and The King’s Speech. It is sure to be a delight! The plot follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, who must decide who is the chosen one to come back to a new life. It’s packed full of mystery. If you love musicals and classical music, this movie is sure to bring you joy. Cats is out on 20th December.

Joker

Movies based on comic books have dominated cinema releases in recent years. DC is back, this time telling the origin story of the infamous Joker. Set in 1981, Arthur Fleck is a failed stand-up comedian who slowly descends into a life of crime. Driven by failure and humiliation, there is no way out. The story follows the evolution of Arthur Fleck as he slowly loses himself and turns into the Joker. Fans of the Batman saga will be delighted with this new addition to the franchise. There is something very interesting about hearing the backstory behind your favourite villain. This is the perfect movie to watch right now if you’re already missing those Halloween vibes. Joker is out now in cinemas.

Terminator: Dark Fate

A movie for all the action fans out there. Terminator returns for its sixth installment. The franchise always promises gripping intensity. The movie is set more than two decades after the prevention of Judgment Day. The protagonists, Sarah Connor and Carl, face a new challenge. Skynet has sent an advanced Terminator from the future to wreak havoc. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back to save the day in this epic film. Action-packed and full of excitement. It is sure to please all the fans of the Terminator movies. This movie is also sure to thrill all the Science Fiction enthusiasts. Terminator: Dark Fate is out in cinemas now.
